The Department of Education, Training and the Arts offers a diverse range of positions both within its teaching and non-teaching workforce. It employs in excess of 35,000 teachers and 15,000 administrative personnel who contribute to the delivery of quality education services through over 1400 state primary, secondary, special and distance education schools.
The Department currently has a large number of teacher applicants seeking work in primary schools. Generally there is demand for teachers in the areas of maths/science, languages other than English (LOTE), manual arts, information technology, special education, instrumental music and home economics in rural and regional locations.

Non-Teaching Workforce
The non-teaching workforce consists of a variety of positions within the employment categories of base grade / ancillary positions and advertised promotional positions.
Base Grade / Ancillary Positions
Base grade and ancillary positions include Administrative Officers, Science Operations Officers, Agricultural Assistants, Schools Officers (Grounds and Facilities), Cleaners and Teachers Aides.
Some entry-level vacancies may be advertised on Smart Jobs and Careers and other internet job boards, or local newspapers. However, many appointments to entry level positions within the Department are made through identified Recruitment Agencies under the Standing Offer Arrangement QP200 (new window) .
Advertised Classified Positions
Advertised promotional vacancies within the non-teaching workforce are typically aligned to the employment categories of Administrative, Professional, Technical and Operational streams. Position types incorporated within these categories such as - Managers, Project Officers, Personnel/Human Resource Officers, Finance Officers, Education Officers and Business Service Managers within Schools. Graduate Development Program
The Department of Education and Training conducts a Graduate Development Program targeting recent graduates (within the last 2-3 years) from a range of disciplines, to work in roles that support the work of our schools and TAFE institutes. We will not be recruiting for the Graduate Development Program in the 2009-10 financial year.
